Scleral lenses are made from medical grade plastics. The scleral lens covers the whole of the eye and sits on the
sclera (the white of the eye) and does not touch the cornea (iris and pupil).
Scleral lenses are fitted by opticians, either individually tailored from a mould of the eye or from a range of
pre-formed fitting shells, that are tried on the eye according to the measurements taken by the optician.
Scleral lenses are used to benefit some of the following conditions- trauma, disease, surgery, mechanical protection
of the eye, irregular corneal shapes, ptosis (drooping upper eye lid) and albinism, scleral lenses can sighted or unsighted.
Cantor & Nissel supply a range of hand painted Scleral lenses that match the 'good' eye and look totally natural in
appearance.
